Cub Scouting grows right along with your child. Every grade is its own den with its own rank and adventures — and a den is just a small group of scouts in the same grade, led by trained, registered leaders.
Scouts join the den that matches their grade and advance to the next rank each year. Dens are small — usually 4 to 8 scouts — so every child gets to know their den mates and leaders well.
A gentle first step into scouting. Lions attend with a parent or caring adult at their side for every meeting and activity, discovering the fun of scouting together through simple, hands-on adventures.
Tigers keep exploring with an adult partner along for the ride. Scouts start earning adventure loops, going on outings, and building the friendships that make a den feel like a team.
Wolves take on more independence, tackling adventures in the outdoors, at home, and in the community while building confidence and new skills one loop at a time.
Bears dig into bigger challenges — building, making, and doing. This is a year full of tools, teamwork, and the kind of hands-on adventures third graders love.
"We'll Be Loyal Scouts." Webelos step toward the older-scout program with more advanced outdoor skills and leadership. At this level the pack forms a separate all-girls den so every scout does the same great adventures.
The highest rank in Cub Scouting and the bridge to what's next. Arrow of Light scouts prepare to cross over into Scouts BSA — for Pack 4255, that means our partner Troop 255 right here in Lee's Summit.
Dens are coed through 3rd grade. Starting at Webelos (4th grade), the pack forms a separate all-girls den that does all the same activities.
Lions and Tigers meet with a parent or adult partner present. For every den, parents personally walk their scout to and from meetings.
Den meetings run through the school year and pause for holidays and weather closures. Your den leader shares the specific schedule.
Scouts wear the Class A field uniform to meetings and a Class B pack t-shirt for active events. See the FAQ for details.
🏹 After Arrow of Light comes the big leap. Fifth-grade scouts cross over into Scouts BSA Troop 255 →, our partner troop in Lee's Summit — where the adventure keeps going all the way to Eagle.
